Poet, activist and clown, Wavy, born Hugh Romney, was given the name by B.B. King during the Texas Pop Festival of 1970. During the late Sixties, he became an anti-war activist and established a commune called the Hog Farm. The Hog Farm achieved fame at Woodstock in 1969 with Wavy as MC where the group cared for and fed the multitudes, setting the spirit of the whole event. Since then, he has become a world-class environmentalist, FUNdraiser and American Indian rights activist. In supermarkets nationwide, Wavy's smiling face appears on the lid of a Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor named after him. Funny, bright, outspoken and utterly tireless in his efforts to create a better world, Wavy Gravy has been embraced by successive generations of young Americans, who make him nostalgic for the future.
