Every dollar raised from Tails of the City goes directly to Destination
Foundation, a non-profit organization that grants dream trips to people
in the San Francisco Bay Area gay community living with life-threatening
illnesses, such as AIDS and breast cancer.
The Foundation is made up of volunteers - the same people who spend countless hours orchestrating Tails of the City. That's why your charitable donation goes a lot further than you might expect... just about anywhere our travelers dream about. Scotland, London, Paris, Italy, Africa, and more. Our trips are much more than a "vacation." They can simply be alternative medicine to heal the body and spirit - a welcome respite after a rough round of chemotherapy or a long hospital stay. We think one of our recipients summed it up best when she said, "Your invitation to become a Destination Traveler is a dream come true...this trip will renew my spirit and help me continue my dance with breast cancer." Destination Foundation was created in 1998 by Tim Hepworth in memory of Jim Poole, his partner of 10 years who passed away from AIDS in 1997. As an American Airlines flight attendant, Jim's travels to 72 countries helped him live with AIDS for 13 years. Each adventure let him temporarily escape his illness and take a hiatus from doctors and clinics. The healing power of these trips is what led Tim to create a foundation that makes travel wishes come true for others who are living with life-threatening illnesses. Thank you for helping us continue our mission.
